Supervisors, managers, and team members work together to help employees understand their roles and responsibilities. We strive to give employees challenging work assignments that provide opportunities for them to grow personally and professionally.

Learning Center

The mission of our Learning Center is to create a learning organization focused on self-development. With our team of over 20 experienced trainers and performance consultants, we:

  • Teach employees the insurance business and the roles of each function within Federated through specialized seminars and classes
  • Assist employees in the development of skills such as leadership, time management, team building, conflict resolution, effective communication, and other personal development skills
  • Evaluate and recommend off-site classes to meet specific training needs not available at Federated
  • Maintain an extensive library of books, workbooks, AV materials, and other self-study material for employees to use

Development training programs – designed for the new college grad

Federated believes in providing a solid foundation for new employees as they start their careers. Our Development Training Programs for Claims, Sales/Marketing, Underwriting, and Field Services (premium audit and loss control) are among the finest in the industry. Each one is an extensive course that lasts from six to twelve months and includes both classroom and hands-on work. The programs provide a thorough background in insurance concepts, products, and risk management.

Insurance industry certifications and designations

The insurance industry offers many self-study courses to help professionals enhance specific skills and product knowledge. Some programs confer professional designations upon completion. Federated encourages and assists employees in these efforts by paying:

  • Most exam fees and the cost of books for insurance courses
  • First-year expenses for new recipients of certain designations to attend the annual meeting and conferment conference of the insurance society awarding the designation
  • Cash awards for successfully completing exams
  • Dues for local and national insurance society membership

Tuition assistance

In support of employee learning and career growth, we offer tuition assistance for employees seeking their initial undergraduate degree.

Health promotion resources

As an insurance company and as an employer, we know first-hand the positive impact of health and safety promotion. Federated is dedicated to encouraging employees to live healthy lifestyles in order to improve the quality of their lives. Our full-time staff of health promotion professionals:

  • Offers multiple classes, seminars, and other learning opportunities on a variety of wellness topics
  • Oversees our on-site Fitness Center (in Owatonna) that houses multiple stations of exercise equipment and a full-size gym
  • Offers a variety of incentive programs to encourage behavior change
  • Offers blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, flu immunization, and other health screenings
  • Conducts workstation evaluations and ergonomic training
  • Provides a library of books, videos, audio tapes, and other material on topics such as nutrition, fitness, stress, family issues, and balancing career and family
