Federated Mutual Insurance Company, Federated Service Insurance Company, Federated Life Insurance Company, and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, “Federated,” “we,” or “our”) are committed to protecting your privacy and earning your trust. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes the personal information we collect about you and how it is used and protected. This Policy applies to our prospective, current, and former clients and their employees and business advisors, prospective employees, claimants, online visitors, enrolled users of mySHIELD®  accessed through myshield.federatedinsurance.com or the Federated mySHIELD mobile application and any other individuals interacting with Federated. However, this Policy does not replace other applicable policies, practices, or privacy notices that may relate to specific business relationships you have with Federated or to certain products or services, as described in the applicable privacy notice.  In the event of a conflict between this Privacy Policy and a privacy notice for a specific product, service, or relationship, the privacy notice applicable to such product, service or relationship shall govern.  If there are any material changes to this Policy, those changes will be posted on this web page.

Information We Collect

We may collect personal information for legitimate business purposes such as but not limited to serving your insurance needs, developing and providing services to you, evaluating you as a prospective employee, managing or administering your policies, administering your claim, marketing our products and services, administering our business, technical support and/or maintaining our systems. Personal information includes any information that identifies you or describes your relationship with Federated.

The types of personal information we may collect about you include but are not limited to:

  • Information you provide on applications or other forms, or in your verbal responses to our questions or information which is provided to us by another individual in connection with our insurance policies or services. This may include, but is not limited to, identifying information such as name, address, social security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, employment or education information, medical or health information, banking information, information about your assets and income, general claim-related information, phone number and email address;

  • Information regarding your transactions with us including, but not limited to, purchased insurance, billing and payment history, account number, claims history, policy audit information, information required for proofs of insurance, and information related to training and risk management practices;

  • Information related to an enrolled user’s use of the mySHIELD portal or mobile application (collectively, “mySHIELD”) including, but not limited to, browser type and version, operating system, IP address, date/time of use, load times, browsing history within mySHIELD and your geo-location during your open sessions in mySHIELD; and

  • Information we receive from third parties, such as, but not limited to, a consumer reporting agency, service providers, or governmental entities.

Information Shared Among Federated

As permitted by law, Federated may share your personal information with its subsidiaries and affiliates for various purposes, such as developing and offering you other services or opportunities made available by such subsidiaries or affiliates.

The sharing of such information relieves our clients of the burden of providing duplicate information each time they apply for a new product with any of our subsidiaries or affiliates. In addition, sharing information allows Federated to develop and enhance services to offer a competitive range of services to our clients. Federated will only share information for legitimate business purposes with the goal of providing our clients with convenience and more choices and maintaining the quality of the services.

How We Use the Information We Collect

Federated Mutual Insurance Company, Federated Service Insurance Company, Federated Reserve Insurance Company, Federated Life Insurance Company and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, “Federated”) may use ECDIS or Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) in the insurance underwriting, pricing, and claims processes.

Disclosure of Information to Third Parties

We do not sell our client lists or any individual’s personal information.

We do not disclose any non-public personal information about you to anyone, except as required or permitted by law, or as otherwise described in this Policy. We may disclose the information we collect about you to non-affiliated companies to provide you with insurance products and services and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. For example, we may disclose information about you to third parties to assist us in servicing your policies and/or claims, to provide you with risk management services, to protect the rights, privacy and safety or property of Federated or others, or to permit Federated to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

mySHIELD makes available to enrolled users various “Policy Management Services” pursuant to the assigned permissions confirmed by each client’s mySHIELD Administrator. Policy Management Services allow clients and their designated enrolled users the opportunity to manage certain aspects of the client’s insurance policy online and access other services provided by Federated. Such services and functionality include, but are not limited to: requesting policy changes and endorsements, viewing and requesting auto identification cards, viewing and requesting certificates of insurance, tools to manage a drivers’ list, viewing and requesting changes to scheduled vehicles and property locations, viewing loss information, viewing invoices, viewing payment information, making payments, reporting a claim, and completing premium audits (collectively, “Policy Management Services”). Where a client’s Administrator has assigned or confirmed an enrolled user’s access to any portion of the Policy Management Services, that enrolled user may have access to the personal information of another individual which is relevant to that client’s insurance policies and services such as, but not limited to, personal information included on a drivers’ list, auto identification cards, additional insured owner of auto or additional insured building owner endorsements, certificate of insurance, and/or that client’s claims-related information available on mySHIELD.

We may de-identify your information by removing any identifiers such as your name or by aggregating information about multiple individuals. Such de-identified or aggregated information does not personally identify you and as such is not considered personal information under this Policy.  Federated may share that information with third parties for lawful purposes. 

Safeguarding Your Privacy

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information. Federated works with a number of third parties to help protect your personal information and maintain the security of our network and may share your personal information with such third parties to the extent necessary to obtain the third party’s services. Federated and its agents reserve the right to monitor or decrypt any communications, including but not limited to secure communications, that you send to Federated personnel. Our employees are bound by our Code of Conduct and policies to limit access to personal information for business purposes only and keep your personal information confidential.

Additional Information for Enrolled mySHIELD Users and Web Site Visitors

Traffic data in an unidentified format is collected from visitors who are accessing our public-facing pages. This unidentified traffic data is used to track such things as the number of guests visiting our site; the areas of the site visited; date and time of access; device type; browser and operating system type used by the visitor; and host or service provider information. This traffic data is collected to better serve our online visitors.

When you visit Federated’s social media pages, Federated-sponsored content on a third party’s social media pages, or click on Federated advertisements on third party websites, depending on your privacy settings, Federated may have access to information that you have provided to the relevant site.  Federated may also have access to anonymized and de-identified information collected by those third party websites.  Federated may use this information for the purposes described in this Policy. 

Except as otherwise provided in this Policy, personal information which you provide to us is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties.

We also collect certain information from enrolled mySHIELD users during their use of mySHIELD.  Traffic data in an identified format is collected from enrolled mySHIELD users when visiting and using mySHIELD.  Information on what identified traffic data is collected and how it is used is described further below in the section “Do Not Track Signals.” 

Personal information about visitors to our public-facing website pages is only collected when you voluntarily and directly offer it, though not an exhaustive list, primarily during the process of enrolling as a secured user, applying for a job, uploading information for underwriting or policy administration, or reporting a claim.  Access to pages storing personal information is password-protected.

mySHIELD collects other personal information about an enrolled mySHIELD user when (1) such enrolled users provide that information directly, (2) another enrolled user provides that information, or (3) Federated collects that information during the normal course of providing its insurance products and services and incorporates it into mySHIELD.  Authorization for an enrolled mySHIELD user’s access to pages storing personal information is assigned and/or confirmed by the client’s Administrator or, if none, the client’s owner, officer, or primary Federated contact.

Protected Health Information

If you are a covered person under Federated group health, dental or disability coverage, you have certain privacy rights with respect to any of your protected health information that we request, use, or disclose. Those rights are found in Federated’s Notice of Privacy Practices.

Cookies and Pixel Tags

Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer when you visit certain websites. Cookies help provide online visitors with a more enhanced experience when using a website.  Pixel tags are technology placed on a website or on an email to track certain activity such as, but not limited to, website views or when an email is opened.  Federated and its subcontractors or consultants may use pixel tags on emails and it websites.  Federated and its subcontractors or consultants may place a “cookie” in the browser file of an online visitor’s computer. Federated and its subcontractors or consultants uses these cookies to keep a record of which web pages you have visited on our site.  This information is used only for Federated’s business and security purposes.

Do Not Track Signals

Federated collects personally identifiable information about enrolled mySHIELD users when they register to use and subsequently use mySHIELD such as, but not limited to, your first and last name, email address, Federated account number attached to your policies, IP address, browser type, portal performance information, and browsing history.  In addition to the information collection and sharing practices described elsewhere in this Policy, Federated uses common tracking technologies, analytical tools, and other technologies to collect certain personally identifiable information about you including, but not limited to, information about your use of mySHIELD which can be attributed to your mySHIELD account. 

We use these technologies and the information gained therefrom to, for example, improve our websites, services, functionality; better understand the interests of our customers and mySHIELD users; assist with serving you with content we think you have interest in; perform analytics; technical support and security; and developing new product/content to enhance our clients’ experience.

Currently, Federated does not support or respond to “do not track” signals or other mechanisms that provide you the ability to exercise choice regarding the collection of information about your use of Federated’s website or mySHIELD.

Federated may provide you with links to third party websites. This Policy does not apply to those third party websites. Review the privacy policies of those third party websites carefully. It is Federated’s understanding that those third party vendors do not collect personally identifiable information about your online activities when you visit those websites through the Federated website.

Children Under 13 Years of Age

The Federated website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13 via our website.

Internet Communication

Federated cannot guarantee the privacy of any communications made over the internet. While we maintain reasonable electronic safeguards regarding our enrolled users, we will not assume any responsibility for any harm, loss or damage you may incur as a result of your transmittal of personal information over the Internet to Federated.

Third Party Websites

Federated is not responsible for the privacy practices of any other websites that may be linked to the Federated websites. We encourage you to review those third party privacy statements as their privacy policy may differ from ours.

Consent

By accessing this website and/or providing your personal information to Federated, you are signifying your consent to Federated’s Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy applies to our United States operations.  Federated offers insurance products and services in the United States and such products and services are not intended to subject Federated to the laws or jurisdiction of any state, country, or territory other than that of the United States.  Federated reserves the right to update this Policy from time to time and any changes will be effective immediately upon posting to this website. This Privacy Policy is effective November 17, 2020.
